Do you enjoy an outdoor jazz concert, sipping wine in your bare feet, digging your feet into the grass while nibbling brie and crackers? Do you enjoy the smooth, caressing jazz music of FourPlay, Larry Carlton, Metheny and Ritenour?
Perhaps it’s the Big Band sounds of swing that take you to your own unencumbered place. Whatever your preference, look no further than the placid turf of Alpharetta’s Chukkar Farm Polo Club to kick off your weekend with the finest of outdoor jazz concert experiences.
After what seems like the worst winter in Georgia history (and certainly the longest), Greater Atlanta is now looking ahead to the inaugural jazz music season of the Chukkar Farm TGIF Concert Series. Banding together with Atlanta Plays It Forward, this variety of jazz and swing vocalists, and the bands that support them, perform every 3rd Friday of the areas warmer months, from April to October.
Our Chukkar Farm patriarch, Jack Cashin is always looking for ways to give back to the Greater Atlanta community — particularly in ways that benefit the entire community. From previous business and music relationships, Jack learned of APIF’s mission to support charitable and community causes with the gift of music.
Headed up by jazz keyboardist Tom LaDow, Atlanta Plays It Forward has a long list of professional local jazz musicians and event providers working (for a reduced fee) to benefit selected organizations.
Due to the success of two jazz concerts last fall, and the wild success of the After Dark music series, Jack and Tom recognized the demand for outdoor jazz concerts in the tranquility of the Chukkar Farm Polo Club.
The collaboration between these two philanthropic men formed the TGIF Concert Series. The proceeds from each concert date will benefit individual charitable organizations.
Each event showcases a different vocal jazz ensemble and style that will range from choral jazz of the 1930’s to Top 40 dance favorites.
For your inner shagger, Pieces of Eight will get you out on the dance floor in August — no experience or shoes required. The big Swing sounds of Capitol City Xpress perform in July and the versatile Jazz Jones Legacy will support the Divas of Swing in September.
As usual, your choice of food and beverage is always welcome in both the pavilion and lawn seats. To view the entire TGIF Concert Series lineup and ticket options, please click here.
